Group video

The final year film for group project is done and overall very pleased considering we took on a lot doing the animation hand-drawn but we done it. As a group we worked well together because we all shared ideas and took ideas from everyone. We all helped out in the animating because we knew time was against us, so that is why we worked well everyone took on a role to help the team out.

Overview on Group Project so far

In the group project so far we have got our design ideas such as layouts and character designs. We have animated a few scenes so far, and over these next few days we have to finish these last few scenes and edit it and add sound all ready for the presentation on the 30th May to present our group animation to the rest of the class and our lectures.

My role has been mostly part of the pre-production team with ellie designing characters and backgrounds for our animation. I have also been helping Vicky with the animation by doing the star scene and the bubbles.

A change to the stars animation

Whe consoling with my group i have changed the colour palette and started to create an animation where the stars are turning image by image to make it feel like its spinning to make the audience and get the immpression that the hippie guy is dizzy.

3d Adaption

My 3d adaption updated, ive changed the camera move and zoomed in more to add more depth to create the 3d illusion in my environment. Overall i am pleased with the outcome because i think it gives the impression of being 3d.

My inspiration for the 2d adaption project

For the 2d adaption project i got my inspiration from a children's book called 'Oscar and Arabella.' What i have done is try and capture this scene into my animation but not use the characters so i had the mountains, sun, sky, cloud, snow, stars and the fire. In this scene i animated the stars to make them look like they're twinkling. I had a cloud with a blurred effect added to it so that it looked transparent and animated it moving across so it looked hazy whist moving over the mountains. Finally and then animated the fire, basically i drew three different shapes of fire and created a cycle so it was on a continous loop and added a blurred effect onto to it aswell. This was to create the illusion of what fire is like.

My final 2d Adaption with sound

This is the final 2d adaption updated with sound because i recieved feedback for me to add sound to create a sense of mood and atmosphere and bring the animation to life. I think the sound track i used works well because it does create sense of you being up in the mountains, with a peacefull, calming atmosphere.

My Ident

This is my ident for the university project. The task was to show our skills and show everyone what the animation course at Falmouth University is all about. In this project we had to have a similiar style technique that we used in our experimental project and create an animation to last up to 10 seconds and feature the words Falmouth Animation and have the university logo featured aswell. Overall i am pleased with the outcome. Whilst in the process of making this animation it reminded me of the style of a russian animator called Gary Bardin that did the animation 'Adagio,' by the way he folded and crinkled the paper.

Logo test for Ident Project

This is a logo test as part of my ident project. This project is designed to show everyone else what the falmouth animation course is all about to feature our University logo, using cut-out paper animation style.

Newquay Zoo

Today we went on a trip to Newquay Zoo for part of our motion studies module. This was to sketch the animals and discover their motion through their movement. My sketches maybe used in my motion studies showreel to show reference.

Bubbles animation test for group project

This is an animation test that i did for our group project, the scene where bubbles are going to appear off the water with the words from script in bubble writing. This is to make our animation less literal and more abstract to make our animation different and exciting.

Final 3D Photograph Model

This is my finished model of my 3d photograph combining softwares like Maya, Mudbox 3d softwares maya where you can create 3d models and animate them and mudbox is where you can take these models and add textures to make them more detailed and interesting to look at. I used photoshop aswell at the beginning to add effects to the original image plane. Overall i am pleased how it turned out but i did face porblems such as software crashing so did take longer to do.

Final 2D Adaption

This is my final 2d adaption video. The animation layout was done in ToonBoom a software that i enjoyed using because it reminded me of the software flash with similar tools and effects. Overall i am very pleased the outcome, even if i did have to export it many times because through the process i had to sort out the components and make sure the effects were in the right place. I got this layout from a children's book called 'Oscar and Arabella,' which as i was reading and looking through the book it reminds me of the film 'Ice Age.' This is because the characters are simliar, they both have mammoths in them and the style of them are similiar in the way they look in their appearance.

Stars Animation Test

This is an animation test i did for scene where where the hippie guy gets hit by the seagull and stars appear because he gets dizzy. The stars will move in a spiral.

An idea for the stars to look like..

We had an idea for the stars to go round in a spiral like a solar system and to have retro 60's colours in the background because we want our animation to be in that style to be related to one of our characters who's hippie looking.

Development of my 3d wall

Now putting the sculpture back into maya i have added more colour and depth to make some parts of the wall go out and parts that go in. By looking at the sculpture it reminds me of what everyday walls look like.

3d Photograph Development In Mudbox

This is a development to the 3d photograph project using mudbox to add textures to make it look more like a photograph of a wall. The textures were stencils in the tools that mudbox provided also using a variation of colours. I do like how the textures can form lines to make interesting shapes within the model.

Group Project progress

At the moment i am creating the scene in photoshop where you see a swirl of stars, showing an abstract  60's vibe to show distorated because the fit guy gets hit in the face by a seagull.

Life Drawing using different materials

These are my drawings that i did in my life drawing class, experimenting with charcoal, coloured pastel and ink to draw the life drawing model from different angles to create shapes and curved lines.

3d Adaption Background

This is my 3d adaption background with a camera added to it to create an illusion that is 3d, by moving the camera forward into the scene. This project links with my 2d project because it is the same background just being moulded into a 3d environment.

3d Photograph working progress

So far in the 3d photograph project i followed my 3d notes on uv wrapping and creating a 3d mould of the photograph combining a lambert and blinn shader to create effects and then from this i will use mudbox to add more effects such as texture stencil work.

2d adaption working progress

This is my 2d adaption background and for this project we have to create a camera movement and animate using a software called ToonBoom. So far i have seperated the layers to depth in the background and also animated the fire and managed to put a blur effect to make it look more like fire. Also i have created a cloud over the mountains and aswell put a blur effect on the cloud to make it more hazy as it is animated to move across the mountains.

Ident Project Ideas

These are ideas for my ident project that ive sketched and written down in my sketchbook. First of all i started of things that associate with Falmouth University. Then i had to think of how this project can relate to my experimental project because these projects have to be linked together. This project is an animation that has to be at least 10 seconds long and as to include the words Falmouth and Animation and also the university logo.

Background Pieces

These are my three final background pieces for my background project. The materials i used were pencil and colour pencil then watercolour. The colour palette i used was a harmonious colour wheel, which are colours that are next to each other in the colour wheel and go well together like for example blues and greens. For these pieces to make them look different i went down the surreal wrote and got inspiration from an artist called Salvador Dali, who creates surrealistic paintings and creates odd shapes and curved lines. I am really pleased how my work has turned out and enjoyed working in watercolour. If i would of changed these pieces i might of added more objects in the interior background.

Also this painting of mine reminds me of the scene in 'Pirates of the Carribean,' where the octopus looking monster destroys the ship.

3d Projects- Detail from a photograph

This is a print screen of what i have done so far for the photograph 3d project. In maya so far i have created the mould of the wall shape to try and get an understanding of what parts of the comes out more than the other parts. Later on i will had texture using other softwares like Mudbox and possibly Photoshop to try and get as much detail from the photograph as i possibly can.

Trip to Truro

Today i went on a trip to truro and went to the truro art musuem and cathedral. This trip was to experience Cornwall and their art heritage and learn about the history of art and Cornwall in general. When looking around the musuem i did some drawings of the artistic pieces around. From this trip i have learnt that something added to your piece makes your piece unique and stand out from everyone else.

Overview of my background project

So far in my background project i think it is going well im pleased with what ive done. I think using watercolour has worked well because it able's you to mix colours together by blending them on your paper. I think watercolour makes your design come alive with bright, vibriant colours.
