My Volunteer/Intern experience

Through out the week I helped out painting all the boards white using gloss and matte paint to make it stand out, as the exhibit was outside.

For the structure of the sets I helped measure making sure everything lines up and straight. As well as drill and screw pieces of wood together. 

If they needed me I was also there helping lifting the rope hangings for another member of the team to put them high on the poles.

Distance Arctic Rocks for Bird scene

Possible design for business card

This is a possible front and inside design of what i thought i could do my business card like for professional practice module.

For Distance

I have been working on making another rock for the bird scene Sammy has for her film, which has to look sinister looking. I am making this using the inside of a bodyboard and using a craft knife to create shapes and then i am using acrylic inks to paint it.

For The Bird i have been working on putting in more backgrounds into the animatic and also helping out in doing a flight animation in ToonBoom, as Tilly and the birds fly across different backgrounds through her journey from England back to Africa.

Work on The Bird this week

For Africa: From Bev's initial layout you can see that I changed the colours and added in a gradient to the sky. I also I added in more perspective to create more depth and distance in the Savannah. The reason for choosing the colours I chose is because I thought these were more African colours and sit well with our style because we want Africa to look bright and beautiful and place that Tilly loves. So with this background I am really pleased how this has turned out.

For England with this background I wasn't really changing much of the look it was more about the colours sitting well with each other and also relate with the colours in the next scene that followed and even then I changed the colours a bit to suit better. Overall it did take me a few goes to get the colour right and sit well each other but in the end I am happy because this didn't have a lot going on in the background.

Colouring in Animation shots 

I have also been working on colouring the animation shots, this I have coloured in Tilly about to walk down the corridor, as well as colouring in the mother, the reaction shot of the mother in the boat seeing her daughter in the water.

With these new backgrounds and shots I have also been working in Premiere to do some editing and placing them into the animatic, to get an idea on timing and aswell to see what the backgrounds look like in the animatic. 

 

The tree, the process

Recent work is now published onto my website, which im pleased with. I made my website using Wix which I never tried before until now and I found the website fine to use and navigate and managed to build my website using a simple template. I have also finished making my tree as well for my portfolio.

The Bird, Distance and website portfolio

The Bird update: At the moment we are focusing on quality shots and do as much as we can but after talking with people we have seen that we can take shortcuts with a few things. So i have been colouring in shots to finishing them off. For backgrounds i made some tweaks to them by recieving advice on colour and tone so everything seems easy on the eye. I also key outlined using Eline's storyboard reference the bird dream sequence.

Distance update:I have made the huge rocks as a set prop that stays in some scenes of the film and occasionally help out in the set up of the shots. 

Website/portfolio update: At the moment the stage of the website is that i am making more props and put in pages and starting the show reel process. Also talking about the university projects i have been involved in, and how i made each prop. Then finally adding in contact details and cv as well as a link to my blog to show my work in stages of production. 

Stages of a tree

In this last week

So for The Bird i have been colouring in more animation shots and then placing them into the animatic to edit. Also more backgrounds are being done, and also me and vicky and the tutors have been discussing that maybe we should cut a few scenes or loose some characters in the england scenes and focus more on Africa, to speed up the animation process, but the tutors have left it to our decision. 

Also for Distance i have been making more big rocks to be used in more scenes for the set.

Today i have been making more props just to build my portfolio for the website i am making which i am also cleaning up and colouring in some concept art for my website aswell. These pictures below are just working progress they will painted.

Distance

These last few days i have been working on making the gigantic rock for the set, as a set prop. The rock will be used in the polar bear scene and may be a few others. The rock will need a few layers of the acrylic ink to cover the foam. The rock has been carved into two layers to create 3d space.

Rocks for Distance

Rocks i made for Distance, the materials i used were foam that you get out of sleeping mats. Then to get the rock shape i carved into using a craft knife to create depth to get a sense of a 3D sculpture. Then to paint them i used acrylic inks keeping with the blue theme. I did the rocks in different shapes and sizes to create an environment for the set.

Todays work for the 3rd yr projects

Today i have been work on building my own website starting a slide show show reel of my props and soon will be concept art as well. I will also include a gallery of stills, which for the props will have a description on how they were made and what were they used for. Also include my cv and contact details and a link to my blog of the work in progress and that ive done throughout my three years at University. This website may also include a video of my prop work and concept art with music behind it as well as stuff i'm pleased with.

The Bird....... and Distance............

In this last week for The Bird i have been colouring in more shots as well as help edit and update the animatic so we can put more shots that we have done, and for Distance i have been making rocks by carving the shape with a a craft knife. Then once i had the shape i then painted them using the acrylic inks using only two shades but still keeping with the blue theme.

When it came to carving i tried to create different layers to get a sense of depth to make the rocks seem more of a 3D sculpture.

The corridor scene we i going to have the lighting the same as the before shot ive just coloured the character in this picture. 

This last week....................

In this last week i have been writing down an order of production for Distance, to write down what order to do the animation which shot to do first. I have also been colouring animation shots for The Bird. As well as scraping the bark of trees for the trees to be in the set. Now also starting to make rocks.

Painting the fish models for Distance and being a colourist for The Bird

These last few days i have been painting using inks to paint the fish that is going to be used as the food in these scenes for the stop motion project Distance. I am also tomorrow going to put some inuit art patterns on the fish to make it seem interesting.

Also i have started to colour in the first scene of The Bird using the toonboom software, which is the bird flying in the sky and swoops down.

The modeled fish

Here is the fish for Distance but before it is painted, just the modeled clay sculpture when it comes out the oven. Then the next stage is painting now.

Animal head

For distance i have been working on making an animal head for it to be put onto a pike to place outside the igloo to be a prop. Again i used the modelling clay to make the animal head sculpture and soon  i will bake it in the oven for it to become hard.

Making a fishing rod for Distance

Today i have been finishing off the fishing rod by painting it using the acrylic inks, i was using a range of browns and add some small detail designs in the inuit style. I have also been making a start on some fish which are being modeled out of clay in different shapes and sizes.
