Today i painted my arrow models for Distance using acrylic inks with a touch of water added to make the model texture still come through but have a distinctive colour. This is my first time properly using these types of inks and i am pleased with the outcome because it allowed me to blend colours together. These arrows will be used as props inside the igloo. Overall i enjoyed making these i will defiantly be interested in doing something like this again.

Lighting in Photoshop
Here is Bev's layout she did for us but i then took it into Photoshop and added more light to make it more eerie and a place you would be scared of. The reason being England is supposed to be a place that Tilly hates. I think this works with the style of England because it has a quirky look like Tim Burton and Coraline work.
An update for The Bird Film
So as we stand for the Bird project, key frame animation as started and more background layouts are being produced, all the character designs and ready. The england layouts are getting underway and Anna has been speaking to the rest of our layout artist about keeping to her style which i think helped our team Anna speaking to them because she can give an in depth talk on our she did it.
Practicing drawing the mother using construction lines
Today i have been practicing drawing Tilly's mother in my sketchbook using construction lines to map out proportion in where the lines need to be in relation to the drawing. This is so we can keep the right shapes to make an accurate drawing.

Modelling arrows for Distance
This week i have been using modelling clay to make arrows to be used as props in the film. To make these arrows i reference inuit art and made a variety of different sizes. After using the clay and modelling it into the right shapes i will then put them into the oven and let them bake for 30 mins. After that i will then use acrylic paint to add colour to make them seem more like arrows and finished. Looking at these images after the arrows have been cooked, me and Sammy are pleased in how they have turned out because they show even the minor detail. The next stage will be painting them which we will make the paint colours very watery so that we still have the detail of the arrow but added colour to make them still realistic.

colour and texture tests with the 3d model tree for DISTANCE
For this experiment i took the plasterstine tree model i made and took a photo of it and then imported it into Photoshop. I then added a layer of a blue colour tint and used a variation of blues to blend nicely together. Afterwards i then added different effects such as cut-out, ink outlines, blurs etc. Then lastly adding in snow to make it still in the style of inuit art that is different but does have a realistic value of a tree.
To make the snow i made the background black first then added noise and mezzoitint to have dots to create white spots to like snow, then lastly added in the motion blur to make a realistic snow.
Overall i am pleased with these tests and the Director Sammy-jo Tawn liked the textures and the colours i used. So now i handed her the jpegs of these tests and she will decide whether she will use this for reference for her film. However if i was to make this model again i would have needed to add more layers to make it seem more 3d instead it seems more flat but nonetheless she said that she might still use it or might use it for the 2d backgrounds that she is going to have.

Tree Test for DISTANCE
Over this weekend i have been research inuit art to get a feel for the style for me to do some tree modelling tests and designs in Photoshop. This is to help Sammy the director of Distance by me experimenting with different materials, as well as do digital designs to see what designs will suit the inuit art style but also what will be easy to make into a 3D model.
For the tree modelling tests i used plastersine as well as white foam because the director and me thought it had a nice ice texture to it.
For the digital designs i was told to reference inuit art and keep to the colour palette of the variety of blues.
Overall i am pleased that i did these tests because it helps the process and then you will know what shape and material work best.

Making a shot list for Distance
This shot list is so Sammy the director of the stop motion film has an idea of what camera angles she needs in her shots of the film to make the film have interesting shots.

This week i have also been making four week schedules for each member of the team so they have something to focus on and that way they will feel motivated.
Here is an example of the schedule:
Here is an example of the schedule:
Also this week i did start doing a layout but in the end i thought it was best for the 2nd yr who did the previous layouts to do it to keep consistency.
Also this week i will be colouring in all of the character designs and doing a shot list for Sammys stop motion Distance because Sammy will have her updated animatic.

Pre production package
From our meeting with Rosa today for next week besides getting our bible done we discussed that we thought it was best to make a production package for the rest of our team. Start by doing a break down of what each person needs to be doing in these next 2-3 weeks
For example:
Imogens main focus break down for animator

Saturday, 10 January 2015
It a new year and for the January hand in i have been focusing putting the pre- production bible together showing all our designs for our film. I am not practicing drawing the mother for when i help animate, which we are going to start in this month. The bible consists of main final designs, research and development for the film, the animatic, animation test shots, some of our layouts which we are continuing to do as we speak. The rest of the layouts that need doing we are going to do alongside starting animating. The bible also shows producer role work including examples of schedules and shot lists.
