In this last week i have been writing down an order of production for Distance, to write down what order to do the animation which shot to do first. I have also been colouring animation shots for The Bird. As well as scraping the bark of trees for the trees to be in the set. Now also starting to make rocks.
Hi my name is Hannah, I am recent graduate at Falmouth University, who studied Animation and Visual Effects. As now discovering a passion for Prop Making and Set Design, these blog posts will show my experiences.

Painting the fish models for Distance and being a colourist for The Bird
These last few days i have been painting using inks to paint the fish that is going to be used as the food in these scenes for the stop motion project Distance. I am also tomorrow going to put some inuit art patterns on the fish to make it seem interesting.
Also i have started to colour in the first scene of The Bird using the toonboom software, which is the bird flying in the sky and swoops down.

Animal head
For distance i have been working on making an animal head for it to be put onto a pike to place outside the igloo to be a prop. Again i used the modelling clay to make the animal head sculpture and soon i will bake it in the oven for it to become hard.

Making a fishing rod for Distance
Today i have been finishing off the fishing rod by painting it using the acrylic inks, i was using a range of browns and add some small detail designs in the inuit style. I have also been making a start on some fish which are being modeled out of clay in different shapes and sizes.
Here are some images of the rod that i made with Aluki that Sammy made:

More lighting test experiments for The Bird and making more props for Distance
For the The Bird i have been doing some more lighting tests and speaking to our lecturer Kathy about lighting but after some discussion we are still gonna experiment because we like the 3d lighting we have used for England so far but Africa we are still not sure on lighting. We might put an overlay of 2d colours for example blues/purples to creates shadows to give an illusion of light.
For Distance i have been making more props i have just finishing modelling a fishing rod which will be painted tomorrow and i have been trying to make a model for a fish in inuit style but we still need work on tomorrow or at a later date.

Organisation for THE BIRD
Today i have been doing a tracking form for The Bird project, this is so we can track what animation shots are done and what layouts are ready for the shot. I also colour coded for example in red is not started, orange is working progress and green is done. As well as mention who is focusing on what shot to keeps tabs on whos doing what. I think this will indeed help us for animation process.
Also i have been organizing the drive so that we have an animation shot folder so that once the animation shots are done we can put them in the right scene and shot of that folder.

Chop chop its an Ax
So last night i baked the Ax in the oven for 2 hours and then it was ready and i let it rest to harden. Then today i painted the Ax using the acrylic inks again and then we added thread onto it and used craft glue spray to harden the thread. Painting the Ax took longer than i expected because the colours i used came out more than i wanted to begin with so then i just kept adding water to water it down. However in the end it turned out what we wanted showing the variation of colour.

More lighting effects........
This is me experimenting with lighting again but of a different view of the corridor in the England scenes that Beverly did. I think the lighting works well because it creates a sense of atmosphere that England is weird which is what we intended. The reason for using this colour palette is because we thought the colours work well together. I think using this colour palette especially pink is interesting because we are using pink to suggest scary but usually when we think of pink it is a form of pretty and beauty. To create this light i used lots of light sources from different angles to create shadow atmosphere. This corridor is part of the scene where she discovers how England is a different world.
